A couple of months ago, Blackpink’s Lisa signed a solo deal with RCA, and now it looks like she hopes to release new music soon. An Instagram Story on her official account links to pre-save links on the major streaming services and says, “Coming soon: Lisa.” It also links to the artist’s official website. A TikTok, which also says “Coming soon: Lisa,” shows her dancing (with and without sunglasses) as a syncopated analog synth jitters up and down. Fans are eagerly anticipating her next move, as these teasers hint at a fresh, exciting chapter in her solo career.
Lisa’s solo venture with RCA marks a significant milestone. “I’m super excited to be joining the RCA family and I am confident they are the best team to create a bigger movement in my solo career,” Lisa said in April. This new deal also allows her to retain ownership of her recordings, a crucial element for any artist’s autonomy and future creative control. This move comes three years after the release of her debut album, Lalisa, which was issued through Interscope by Blackpink’s label, YG. While she has continued recording and touring with Blackpink, the group’s recent decision not to re-sign individually with YG has given each member more control over their solo careers. This newfound freedom is already bearing fruit for Lisa, who is also set to appear in the upcoming season of The White Lotus.
Reflecting on her solo debut in 2022, Lisa shared with Rolling Stone how daunting the experience was. “Normally, when the four of us are together — let’s say Chaeyoung [Rosé] gives her 100 percent,” she said. “Then the rest of us can feel it onstage. And unconsciously I also get this energy of ‘Shoot, I need to do more, too.’ We boost each other in that way. But if I stand alone, it’s different. I can’t take energy from anybody. It just has to come from me. And the fans just watch only me. It was a huge burden. But what can you do? This is my solo! I just practice and monitor myself a lot.” Her candid reflections underscore the challenges and growth involved in stepping out as a solo artist. Now, with a new team and a renewed sense of purpose, Lisa is poised to captivate the world once again.
