The League of Legends Worlds Championship has returned for 2023. This year, the tournament will be held in South Korea. Besides crowning the best team in the world, fans are eager for the release of the tournament’s official anthem.
Honouring the tradition of working with artists local to the tournament, Riot Games has paired up with global K-pop sensation, NewJeans, a five-member group composed of Hanni, Danielle, Minji, Hyein, and Haerin. On October 4, 2023, Riot Games officially released ‘Gods.’ It is the electrifying anthem, performed by NewJeans and written by Riot Games’ composer, Sebastien Najand and Mako’s Alex Seaver. This marks the 10th anniversary of Worlds’ championship anthems, joining other iconic tracks such as ‘Legends Never Die.’
NewJeans departs from their usual R&B-inspired music, with ‘Gods,’ a track sung entirely in English and using a heavy synthetic sound. The track opens with a dramatic choir, leading into a powerful chorus that showcases NewJeans’ vocals. It presents many incredible hype moments, with some slower parts sprinkled throughout, perfectly encapsulating the grind and glory that awaits the players.
