The competition for the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 is heating up as the K-pop phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters (KPDH) sees its soundtrack dominate the charts. One song in particular, "Golden" by fictional K-pop group HUNTR/X, has become a breakout hit, rising to No. 2 on the Hot 100. But it faces tough competition from Alex Warren’s pop-folk hit "Ordinary," which has been a chart leader for eight weeks straight.
"Golden," which serves as one of the key songs from the KPop Demon Hunters Netflix animated musical, has caught fire among listeners. The track, which blends K-pop’s signature energetic beats with an engaging storyline, has made an impressive rise in just five weeks. This week, "Golden" surged two spots to No. 2, inching ever closer to the top spot held by Warren's "Ordinary."
The song’s success is fueled by its massive streaming performance, where it recently topped Billboard’s Streaming Songs ranking for the first time. Additionally, "Golden" received a boost from a newly released remix by renowned DJ David Guetta, giving it extra momentum during the tracking week.
Despite this rise, the song faces a major hurdle: radio play. While it is gaining traction on Pop Airplay, debuting at No. 35 this week, it still has a significant gap to close to match "Ordinary," which has maintained dominance across platforms, especially on Radio Songs.
Alex Warren’s "Ordinary" has been a chart powerhouse since its debut, spending the past two months at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s steady performance across various platforms, including topping Radio Songs for six consecutive weeks, has solidified its place in the top spot.
Though "Ordinary" has seen some leveling off in its radio growth, it remains incredibly dominant, holding strong in the top five on Streaming Songs and ranking No. 9 on Digital Song Sales. Warren’s song continues to have a strong fanbase and proves difficult to dethrone, as it has remained stable despite the rise of "Golden" and other competitors.
The battle for No. 1 on the Hot 100 is a tough one. While "Golden" is making impressive gains in streaming, it will need significantly more radio support to overtake "Ordinary." The song has already garnered a strong international fanbase, and its catchy, anthemic quality could make it a chart-topper in the coming weeks. However, it may take several more weeks before it can finally unseat "Ordinary," unless Warren’s song sees a significant drop-off in its cross-platform performance.
Meanwhile, other artists like Justin Bieber with "Daisies," and Drake featuring Central Cee with "Which One" are also beginning to make waves on the charts. "Daisies" is gaining momentum on radio and could become a long-term contender, while Drake and Central Cee’s collaboration is quickly gaining steam, especially on streaming platforms.
As for KPop Demon Hunters, the success of "Golden" has led to nine songs from the soundtrack entering the Hot 100, showcasing the widespread popularity of the show and its impact on the music charts.
As the Hot 100 continues to evolve, all eyes are on the fierce competition between "Golden" and "Ordinary." While it remains to be seen how long Warren’s song will hold on to the top spot, it’s clear that KPop Demon Hunters has made an undeniable mark on the Billboard charts. "Golden" may have a long road ahead to surpass "Ordinary," but with its cross-platform success and ongoing support, the song may be just one step away from claiming the throne.
For now, fans of both tracks will continue to track the rise of these two chart-toppers, eagerly awaiting the next shift in the Billboard Hot 100.
