After 70 weeks at No. 1 with “Too Sweet,” Hozier’s reign on Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs chart comes to an end as newcomer Sombr takes over with “Undressed.”
Hozier has lived two different careers in the rock spotlight. The first came with his 2013 breakthrough “Take Me to Church,” which made him a global superstar and one of rock’s last true crossover acts. For years afterward, many wondered if he could ever capture that level of success again.
Fast-forward to 2024, and Hozier proved he wasn’t a one-hit wonder. His single “Too Sweet” not only returned him to the top of charts around the world but also carved out a historic run on Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs chart.
Since its release, “Too Sweet” dominated the Hot Rock Songs tally for an incredible 70 weeks at No. 1 out of its 72 total weeks on the chart. That kind of longevity is nearly unheard of on any Billboard ranking, solidifying the track as one of the longest-running rock chart-toppers of all time.
Even though its reign has finally ended, “Too Sweet” has already secured Hozier’s place in Billboard history.
The artist to dethrone Hozier? Rising newcomer Sombr, whose breakout hit “Undressed” just climbed to No. 1 after a steady 20-week rise. The song surged from No. 2 to the top spot, signaling Sombr’s arrival as one of rock’s most promising new voices.
“Undressed” marks a major turning point, not just for Sombr’s career, but for the genre itself, proving that fresh talent can still shake up the rock charts in 2025.
