Posner's ascent began during his time at Duke University, where he balanced academics with his passion for music. In 2009, he released the mixtape A Matter of Time, which garnered significant attention and led to a recording contract with J Records. His debut single, Cooler Than Me, released in 2010, became a commercial success, peaking at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning septuple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Following this success, Posner released his debut album, *31 Minutes to Takeoff*, in August 2010. The album featured hits like Please Don't Go, which also achieved multi-platinum status.
