Taylor Swift fans are buzzing after longtime collaborator Joseph Kahn revealed that the singer filmed — but never released — a music video for her Reputation track “King of My Heart” nearly a decade ago.
Speaking on the Ourselves podcast, Kahn explained:
“We started shooting it. We never finished it because she switched gears in the middle of it to do ‘Ready for It?’”
The director added that the video was “highly visual effects” and fully shot, but it never made it past production.
After a Swift fan account shared the news, one commenter joked that the “King of My Heart” video is “officially becoming the new All Too Well 10-minute song,” referencing the long-awaited extended version of Swift’s Red track that she finally released in 2021 on Red (Taylor’s Version) after years of fan requests.
Kahn has directed eight of Swift’s music videos and one commercial, starting during her 1989 era. Their collaboration began when Swift called him — while he was watching A Clockwork Orange — to helm the “Blank Space” video.
He would go on to direct 1989 visuals for “Out of the Woods,” “Bad Blood,” and “Wildest Dreams” before teaming up again for Reputation in 2017.
Kahn recalled meeting Swift and producer Jack Antonoff right after the Super Bowl in 2017, as Swift was still dealing with backlash from her feud with Kim Kardashian, who had famously labeled her a “snake” on social media.
“Let’s embrace the snake,” Kahn told her. “Snakes are cool… We decided to make the snake the concept in the video.”
That conversation led to the Reputation lead single’s music video, “Look What You Made Me Do,” which became Kahn’s most ambitious project yet.
Kahn says the video required five days of filming across 18 sets, funded entirely by Swift herself.
“She wrote an unlimited check and went for it… I’m so glad that she has it all back now, because she’s the one that was writing those checks… She laid it all on the line.”
For now, the unreleased “King of My Heart” video remains locked away, joining the list of mythical Swift projects that fans hope will eventually surface. Given Swift’s track record of delivering long-requested material to her audience, many Swifties believe it’s just a matter of time.
