On October 6, (G)I-DLE dropped their latest EP, Heat. The mini-album, consisting of 5 tracks, was made through a collaboration between Cube Entertainment and 88Rising.
Since their debut in 2018, (G)I-DLE has been known for their genre-defying concepts and for being directly involved in their music creation. This all changes with HEAT, as there are no credits for the members on this album. The EP also marks a major milestone for the group by becoming the first album that has been recorded entirely in English. This decision was made in hopes of giving back and connecting with fans in the United States.
The album opens with the track, ‘I Do,’ a heartfelt synth-pop track that delves into the complexity of love and heartbreak. The members’ emotional vocals and lyrics captivate listeners by painting a vivid image of regret, urgency, and longing. This track was first released in September 2023. The lead single, ‘I Want That,’ is an intense Eurodance track about wanting an all-consuming love. ‘Eyes Roll’ is a somewhat playful pop song with a catchy melody. ‘Flip It’ is a hip-hop track with heavy rap influences to present an empowered attitude. The album’s closing track, ‘Tall Trees,’ gives the members an opportunity to showcase their vocals, as they discuss vulnerability in a romantic relationship.
This album signifies the group’s continued experimentation as artists and commitment to growing their international fanbase.
