After months of anticipation, Chappell Roan has confirmed that her long-awaited single, "The Subway," will officially arrive this Wednesday, July 31, at 8 PM EST.
The announcement came via her Instagram, where she shared the song’s eerie cover art, a close-up of her face nearly swallowed by cascading waves of her signature red hair.
Fans first got a taste of "The Subway" during Roan’s Governors Ball 2024 performance, where she delivered a raw, emotional rendition of the track while dressed as the Statue of Liberty. Since then, the song has become a staple of her live shows, with its melancholic lyrics and New York City-inspired imagery resonating deeply with audiences.
Earlier this month, eagle-eyed fans spotted Roan filming what appeared to be a music video for the single. Set photos revealed her sporting impossibly long, Rapunzel-like hair while singing on a fire escape and dramatically trailing behind a taxi hinting at the cinematic direction of the upcoming visual.
"The Subway" marks Roan’s first release since "The Giver," which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March. Before that, her viral hit "Good Luck, Babe!" solidified her status as one of pop’s most exciting new voices.
While fans eagerly await new music, Roan has made it clear that a full album is still in the works. Last week, she announced a series of intimate pop-up shows in New York City, Kansas City, and Pasadena, teasing that these performances would be a "special send-off" before she disappears to write her next project.
With "The Subway" finally pulling into the station, Roan continues to prove she’s an artist who thrives on bold visuals, emotional storytelling, and keeping fans on their toes.
