Boys Planet is a South Korean survival show produced by Mnet. It premiered on February 2, 2023, with 12 episodes in total. From thousands of applicants, 98 contestants were selected and split into two groups: K-Group (Korean) and G-Group (global). Throughout the show, the trainees trained rap, dance, and vocal skills through a variety of battles. On April 20, 2023, the nine members of ZEROBASEONE (ZB1) were announced.
The final members of ZB1 include Kim Jiwoong, Zhang Hao, Sung Hanbin, Seok Matthew, Kim Taerae, Ricky, Kim Gyuvin, Park Gunwook, and Han Yujin. The group debuted on July 10, 2023 with the mini album, Youth In The Shade. The group is managed by WakeOne and their contract will last for two years and a half.
Youth In The Shade consists of 6 tracks. The opening track, ‘Back to Zerobase,’ is a drum and bass song that features powerful vocals to encapsulate their hopeful dreams about the journey ahead. The lead single, ‘In Bloom,’ is a vibrant drum and bass song that captures the emotions of youth. The third song, ‘New Kidz on the Block,’ is a fun dance-pop song about the group’s determination to reach the top. The fourth track, ‘And I,’ is a R&B pop song which explores their impressive vocals with some lighter hip hop sounds. The fifth song, ‘Our Season’ is a pop song that captures friendship, excitement, and dreams. The closing track, Always’ is performed solely by centre, Zhang Hao for winning first place on the show. In this song, he expresses his gratitude towards fans.
ZB1 is set to make an exciting comeback in November.
Mnet’s previous survival shows have led to the debut of several other groups formed by the eliminated trainees. Boys Planet is no exception.
Formed by Jellyfish Entertainment, EVNNE is a 7-member boy group with trainees from WakeOne, Yuehua, and the Rain Company. The members consist of Keita, Park Hanbin, Lee Jeonghyeon, Yoo Seungeon, Ji Yunseo, Mun Junghyun, and Park Jihoo. The group made their debut on September 19, 2023, with the mini album, Target: Me.
